Newmarket Hurricanes sweep the weekend
The Hurricanes were on the road Friday night against the Wellington Dukes and won with a big game by leading scorer Nathan Philips, who netted a hat trick to beat the Dukes by a score of 4-1. Newly acquired goaltender Hayden Duncan made his Hurricanes debut with an outstanding game, allowing one goal on 17 shots.
The next day, the Hurricanes returned home and hosted the Markham Royals at Ray Twinney. Another 2 points were earned but it was not easy as they had to come from behind as they trailed half way through the game by 2 goals. Joseph Macchione led the way offensively with 2 goals but the Hurricanes still trailed 4 – 3 going into the 3rd period. The third period saw Newmarket score twice in the third to complete the comeback and take the game 5-4.
This week the Newmarket Hurricanes travel down Yonge St on Friday to take on their cross town rivals, the Aurora Tigers and then return home on Saturday where they take on the Georgetown Raiders. Puck drop is 4:30pm at the Ray Twinney Rec Complex.
